Photograph, Elizabeth Williams

Tourist complex where the Israelites were said to have camped while Moses received the
Ten Commandments, Plain of ar-Raah, Sinai, Egypt.

'I rose and climbed a mountain dry, the green'ry there had still not shown;
So putting shoes to both my feet, I sought a spot where pasture'd grown.'

First lines of a Bedouin poem composed and recited by Tu'emi Musa ad Daguni,
near St. Catherine's Monastery, Sinai, 5 Nov, 1978.

Quoted by Clinton Bailey, Bedouin Poetry (1991)
