Introduction

There are four ways to search for a photograph.
Each method will provide small, 'thumbnail' images from which you can select a larger image and text, and then a full size image without text.

  • On the search page you can type words into a 'keyword' text box which describe the photograph you are seeking.
    See keywords below.
  • On the search page you can select place categories which describe the photograph through selecting pre-defined text boxes.
    See place search below.
  • On the search page you can select subject categories which describe the photograph through selecting pre-defined text boxes.
    See category search below.
  • On the search page you can select links which will provide index lists of titles of photographs in the main 'Wanderings' archive and also the supporting 'Xtra' archive, from which you can link directly to the image & text page, and then a full size image without text.

You can use the keyword, place and category search individually or together.

Keywords

Each photograph has keywords assigned to it in the database.
Type words in the text box which describe the photograph you are searching for, placing a comma and space after each word and select SUBMIT to view small, 'thumbnail' images of all the photographs bearing your keywords.
Click a 'thumbnail' image to view a larger image with text information, click again to see a full size image without text.
Keywords do not contain aesthetic descriptions (colour, tone, texture etc.) but do contain subject titles, categories, names (place, people, groups) and other information such as time of day (morning, evening, sunrise, sunset etc.) or weather conditions (snow, sand storm etc.), if relevant .
