Author information

Elizabeth Williams has worked as a photographer since she graduated from London College of Communication in 1975. Her photographs have been exhibited in galleries throughout Britain and Europe, and also in South Africa, Canada and America. Her photographs are held in public and private collections including the National Museum of Film, Photography & Television, Royal Photographic Society, Victoria & Albert Museum and Bibliotheque Nationale.

Wanderings is her first internet project. While making this photographic archive she also worked on three other related projects:-
Strange Territory - while Artist in Residence in Sinai, Egypt she collaborated with Elizabeth Edwards, Curator of Photography at the Pitt Rivers Museum, University of Oxford, in a postcard dialogue.
Inscriptions- Desert, Borderland, Wasteland - three image/ text sequences that inscribe meaning to marginal sites on the edge of the City of Oxford.
The Ladder - a light-box and floor-print installation of Sinai desert images that were made in response to time spent in the cave hermitage of St. John Climacus.

Elizabeth has also taught photography, visual communication and history of art since completing Post-Graduate Education studies at the University of Reading in 1976. Whilst working on this project she initiated and worked on the education project 'Dialogues' which is hosted on websites by the National Museum of Film, Photography & Television.
Dialogues-Finland - involves a photographic dialogue between Photography and Media Studies students at University of Lapland and Social Anthropology students at University of Hull.
Dialogues-South Africa - is an image/text dialogue between schoolchildren in Cape Town, South Africa and Leeds, U.K.

During the making of Wanderings she was also visiting lecturer at the University of Reading, Dept. Typography & Graphic Communication and Reading School of Art & Design in Britain, and Finnish Universities in Helsinki, Jyväskyla, and Lapland. She also gave lectures and workshops in Britain, and in South African Universities in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Bloemfontein and Cape Town.
